Remote Wireless Infrastructure

A power tap adapter allows the use of existing light pole infrastructure to power auxiliary equipment like wireless access points, CCTV cameras, sensors, routers, gateways etc. It taps into the power supply of a streetlight by connecting between the photocontrol and locking type receptacle of the luminaire.

The adapter will work without interrupting normal photocontrol operation of the luminaire as provided for by the ANSI C136.10 (Locking-Type Photocontrol Devices and Mating Receptacles - Physical and Electrical Interchangeability and Testing) and ANSI C136.41 (For Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Dimming Control Between an External Locking Type Photocontrol and Ballast or Driver) regulations of 2023.

These units come with different numbers of pin contacts depending on the level of lighting control required. Based on this, they can be classified as follows:

They only allow for the On/Off operation of the luminaire, no special circuitry for dimming control.

 3 Pin Receptacle

  • 5-pin taps (3 power pins + 2 signal contacts)

Allow for On/Off operation with two added contacts for dimming control. The added contacts will enable 0-10V dimming or Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) dimming method and any other auxiliary functionality.

 5 Pin Receptacle

Allow for on/off with four added contacts for dimming control. The added contacts will enable 0-10V dimming or Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) dimming method and any other auxiliary functionality.

7 Pin Receptacle

Note: The images shown depict the receptacle on top of the luminaire onto which the adapter installs, its 3 locking pins fit perfectly to allow for a very firm and stable installation.

We offer different power taps to convert the street light power into different output voltages based on the auxiliary equipment needs. For example, we provide taps to:

  • convert any voltage from 90 - 480 VAC to 1224/ 48 VDC output;

  • step down any AC voltage up to 480 VAC to standard 120 VAC output;

These power taps are also available with different cable lengths and terminations as per user requirements.
